PROJECT:DIY// TIE DYE BOARDSHORTS

After posting about the Vans x RIT collab, I decided to take a stab at it myself just for kicks. Since Vans isn’t offering the product in women’s sizes, it’s nice to know that the package is easy enough to put together on your own. Total cost came out to under $22, nearly a 1/3 of the price of the Vans shorts.

Follow the dye box directions to prepare dye. Make sure you’re working in a safe, covered area in case of any spills.

I have limited experience dying, so I kept this pretty simple:

  1. Fold shorts in half.
  2. “Accordion” fold the shorts starting with the waistband and working your way down.
  3. Once folded, roll both ends in towards the center and secure with rubber bands. One end will be thicker than the other because of the waistband closure.

  4. Begin dying! I left the garment in each dye for about 10 minutes.                                                               5. Once finished, untie the shorts and rinse with cold water until the water runs clear. Machine          wash, hang dry, and you’re done!
